It’s been a long and strange few months, hasn’t it? Way back in March (which feels like ages ago), we released two downloadable, print-from-home coloring books in honor(?? I guess ??) of quarantine: Soul Flower Designs and Soul Flower Hippies. Today, we want to share another coloring page, but this time for FREE, right here on this blog post.
Buds, it seems impossible but it’s been almost 20 years since we started our little hippie shop on Grand Ave in St Paul, MN. We are celebrating all year long with fun throwback t-shirts, great deals and awesome memories. Here’s some news that’ll brighten your day: you have the power to reduce the environmental impact of ALL your clothes, even if they’re not eco-friendly! Choosing sustainably-made garments made of fibers like organic cotton or recycled polyester is a great start. But did you know that laundering is still the largest contributor to a piece of clothing’s overall greenhouse gas footprint? Consider the total life cycle of a garment: the raw materials, manufacturing, shipping, to your at-home wear and care and ultimate disposal. What you practice at home accounts for 40-80% of the garment’s total emissions. You can make a huge difference and green up your laundry practices!
Polyester is the most common fabric in fashion today. The problem is, typical polyester is made from non-renewable petroleum and it’s energy-intensive to produce. But recycled polyester is fabric harvested from plastic that has been recycled, like plastic water and beverage bottles. The recycled polyester fabric process takes plastic bottles, cleans them, makes pellets of the recycled plastic and then melts it all into new thread. That thread is then knitted into fabric. There are many reasons why organic cotton is better than conventional cotton.
