Sometimes life happens in unexpected, unwanted, horrific, and mentally-exhausting ways. I know we think that we are well-equipped to handle life when things are going good. However, when things lately turned south for me, I had to draw from my other life experiences to remind myself that everything is going to be OKAY. (more…)
The objects we keep in our homes say a lot about us. Decorations, keepsakes, trinkets, mementos, clothing, jewelry, and things we adorn ourselves with are all in our lives because we’ve chosen them. They’re special to us. Objects help tell stories and inspire us. In this post, I’ll show you how to draw a personal mandala, using inspiration taken from those trinkets around your home.

There’s a common saying that goes, “You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day, unless you’re too busy; then you should sit for an hour.” Whether it’s meditation, or any other kind of mindfulness practice, it’s important to both take the time, and create a space where you can escape from the frenetic energy around you. I’m ready to move! We will be relocating from the west coast beach to southern Utah this week and I have to admit I’m going to miss my tribe here in Morro Bay . We had my last yoga pot luck on Friday, where we did some slack lining, and I taught my last classes at the studio I work at. (more…)
We get pretty excited about Earth Day around here. We’ve made it a tradition to take time on each Earth Day to reflect about what we can do to continue to minimize our environmental impact and to take some time to leave the environment around us better than we found it. (more…)
The thrill of a new job is both electrifying and terrible. New people, whose faces bear no name, fast become familiar – friendships are born, but sometimes not. Those first days are alive with possibility and pitfalls, simple tasks can be tantalizingly difficult; it’s the professional equivalent of being a two-year-old. (more…)

There’s a common Shakespeare quote that goes, “A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow.” Best friends, Siera (Soul Flower owners Mike & Peggy’s daughter) and Sophia, who were recently in for a photoshoot, are truly the embodiment of that sentiment. Scroll through these photos to get a feel for their friendship and some sneak peeks at some not-yet-released threads! (more…)
Packing for a trip is never easy, let alone packing for a trip to a country that is tropical – and given the time of year almost an 80 degree difference from where I live. Being a northern midwest girl I have quite the collection of clothes. I knew that I had some serious packing to do before my trip to Bali. (more…)
Poetry is a life-cherishing force. For poems are not words, after all, but fires for the cold, ropes let down to the lost, something as necessary as bread in the pockets of the hungry.
Get inspired by glimpses of our new Spring/Summer threads, our folksy Americana playlist, and behind-the-scenes takes from our recent photoshoot in Minneapolis. (more…)
Sadly, this is my last post as a member of the 2015-16 Vibe Tribe for Soul Flower. It’s been a fun year writing about things near and dear to my heart while wearing “cool threads for kind heads.” Renee (Social Media bud at Soul Flower) has been wonderful with her email reminders and her words of encouragement and her sharing of appreciation from the staff. And it has been fun learning a bit about my fellow Vibe Tribers from their posts. Mara, Melina, Alia, Samantha, Rachel and Liz – thank you. (more…)
It’s no secret that terrariums are gaining popularity. And why wouldn’t they? These “mini greenhouses” of sorts are adorable, low maintenance, and the perfect way to green up indoor spaces. We love our plants (we are your buds you know!) and we have a lot of indoor plants in our offices. So we thought – why not find a way to bring our two worlds together: house plants and recycling! We’ve taken the classic enclosed terrarium and “greened it up” even more by reusing an empty 2 liter soda bottle for the container: a simple plastic bottle terrarium! Read on to learn how to create your own soda bottle terrarium and create a mini organic (and recycled!) space for your plants. (more…)

Whether or not circumstances are a vision we had in mind, there is always an underlying purpose awaiting its discovery. We may not feel too eager about every situation we find ourselves in, but we still need to build upon them. Sometimes life throws the most unexpected curveballs, and sometimes we wake up to find that nothing was the way we left it only a few hours prior. I found myself in this position several weeks ago when a life I imagined sharing disappeared overnight.(more…)
